Finished and based. The next unit for my Sealion crowd. Be very afraid of this mighty example of British artillery. It could in fact be the reason Hitler went after Russia thus changing the course of the war.

Have a watch of this and see what you think

That photo of yours is rather acrobatic you know. It’s quite clever leaning on its side like that. Perhaps it’s a side effect of being in close proximity to the apocalyptic power of the Northover Projector…

I’ve just finished the first two stands of greenskins for my Orcish Horde for Legions of Battle. I still have four more stands of these – they’re sitting in the to-do queue and who knows when they’ll join their regiment… These were the most done of the lot so got finished first.

Something that I have chipping away at slowly in the background has been some guys from the Operation Sealion book Warlord released for Bolt Action. It’s a fun looking setting with some really odd units (including the Great Panjandrum) and a lot of thematic scenarios

I am going to use this as a very slow WIP blog, of sorts. So, to start here are a few of the guys I have done/ am still working on:

Get a bit of spare pipe. Cook up some black powder charges in the kitchen and you’ve got yourself a boch bashing bit of artillery

This is Isambard. He filed forms in the last war but now with the arrival of ze falschirmjager he’s had greatness thrust upon him. Well, he assumes that’s the case

Some local oafs think Isambard is on to something and are off to help him bash ze boch. Cause what’s an MP38 when you have a large spanner

I have plans for this one. Any idea?

I’ll leave this right here. Who’d a thunk it? Guess I’ll be getting a copy then.

How did everyone’s pre orders go then? Were we all up at 1am to be first in the virtual queue?

Righto, I’m aiming to get my first Legions of Battle list done soon. But what do we think about limiting the number of choices for each category? For example, we have Common, Uncommon, Rare and Heroes and Legends. Should we allow an unlimited number of options in each category or do we limit the selection to keep each list more interesting? I don’t think itd be much fun having lists that can do it all, nor would it be much fun to put them together. It’d take ages at the very least. Maybe better to have a variety of similar lists but not any vast “master list”? What thinketh you all?

Do it yourself armies are fun but also lend themselves to being designed around a min-max arrangement, which i think, is possibly worse than min-max a pre written army. You know like a WHFB type list. So they take a bit of self policing to make them fun for everyone. Obviously you need to approach an army with an idea of what you want, so elite, horde blah blah…

So. Is your thinking that the points % is not an effective control mechanism?? You may be right. If one can find a sweet spot of stats and get a very points efficient unit then one will max it.

My question is..how do we define each type. I personally feel my fire breathing, flying badger cav with lighting shooting lances, wearing armour of complete invulnerability would be common. Well, because that’s what my dwarfs are like…….Should we be looking more at that part of list building?

No, the points % is great, it’s more an issue of what goes in that %… I mean, I can legally make dragon riders Common. Hmmm…

I reckon yes, it’s that part of list building we definitely need to look at.
